Selina designed the makeup for a character I was playing in a brand new, never before performed show. There are many facets to this makeup design that I think are important to mention. First, is that I have no idea how to do makeup. I only ever do makeup for theater, and this was only my second show in my adulthood. Selina was challenged with finding makeup that I could do on my own, and wasn’t too challenging for me. Of course, there were things that I didn’t know how to do. But Selina was extremely patient and took time to show me how to do it so I could feel good every single show. The second challenging facet that Selina took into consideration was both my gender identity and the character’s gender identity. As those did not align. Selina was extremely considerate of who I was and my comfortability on the stage, yet was still able to find a design that spoke true to this character’s essence and who they were as a person separate from myself. I was able to perform on stage while truly being this character, but still feeling comfortable being portrayed in that way. As a non-binary actor, acting in theater is extremely difficult for me, and I am often not feeling seen. Selina’s design was extremely validating, and honestly made my day when I first saw it. It was also just so good and quality that I am now taking pieces of it with me in my daily routine. I didn’t even have a daily makeup routine before this. But now I add it, because Selina took into consideration my own characteristics and my own facial features, and made sure to pick something that made me (and my character) look good. Selina’s makeup design literally changed my daily life. You will not regret using her expertise.
